The Women Songwriters Hall of Fame (WSHOF) Inductee: Jody Watley – Host for WSHOF 2021

The Women Songwriters Hall of Fame (WSHOF) is an organization dedicated to honoring and recognizing the exceptional contributions of women to the world’s music songbook. Our mission is to celebrate established women songwriters and support up-and-coming talent through workshops, showcases, discovery, and scholarships.

One of the exceptional women songwriters we have honored is Jody Watley. She is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and businesswoman who has blazed trails in the music industry for over three decades. With a career spanning over three decades, Watley has not only left an indelible mark on the music industry but has also made a significant impact in fashion, activism, and entrepreneurship.

Watley’s influence extends far beyond music, as she has also made significant contributions in fashion, activism, and entrepreneurship. In the 1980s, she became known for her bold fashion choices, often incorporating high fashion and streetwear in her music videos and performances. Her fearless approach to fashion inspired many and helped to set the stage for the fusion of music and fashion that is now commonplace in the industry.

Watley has also been a vocal advocate for social justice and equality. She has used her platform to raise awareness and funds for various causes, including HIV/AIDS research, LGBTQ rights, and the Black Lives Matter movement.

In addition to her contributions to music and activism, Watley is also a successful entrepreneur. She has launched her own record label, Avitone Recordings, and has released several critically acclaimed albums under the label. Watley has also expanded her brand into fashion, launching her own line of clothing and accessories.

Jody Watley’s life and career are a testament to the power of creativity, innovation, and perseverance. As a pioneer in music, fashion, and business, she has inspired generations of artists and entrepreneurs to follow in her footsteps and forge their own paths.
