Batman v Superman’ Soundtrack Gets Teaser

by Graeme McMillan

Audiences have had a chance to see Ben Affleck’s new cinematic Batman, learn that he’s an executioner and watch him smirk at Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent — now, thanks to a teaser of the soundtrack to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they can hear what he sounds like. Which is, apparently, very percussive.Warner Bros. has uploaded a 90-second clip of “Men Are Still Good (The Batman Suite)” from the BvS soundtrack to its WaterTowerMusic Soundcloud account, offering an aural tease of what to expect from Junkie XL’s contributions to Zack Snyder’s superhero slugfest movie.

Junkie XL — real name Tom Holkenborg — is sharing composing rights to Batman v Superman with Hans Zimmer, with Zimmer taking on Superman-centric scenes while XL handles Batman-related material. The two have previously collaborated on The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel, with XL acting as solo composer for last year’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Beyond the sturm-und-drang of “Men Are Still Good,” what stands out is the title of the piece; in the trailer for the movie released at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Bruce Wayne’s butler and conscience Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons) is seen to warn Wayne about his vendetta against Superman by mentioning “the fever… the rage that turns good men cruel.” Is “Men Are Still Good” a sign that Batman sees the light in time for next year’s Justice League movie…?

“Men Are Still Good” is actually the second piece of Batman v Superman music to be released to date, The track “Their War Here” — presumably referring to the flashbacks to the climactic Man of Steel battle — was also teased via Soundcloud last month.
