Fashion, beauty experts: Focus on health, balance for 2019

It’s the time of year when many make resolutions. “I will fit into a size 6 dress by spring.” Or “No more junk food.” Maybe “Excessive spending stops today.” Such declarations are easy to say but more difficult to sustain.

Perhaps it’s time to rethink resolutions and instead concentrate on slowly but surely making the things in our lives that we want to be better, to be better.

No grand statements, just quiet determination. Measured steps with long-term in mind, instead of expectations of quick success or transformations. We asked a few Oklahomans in the fashion and beauty business what they’d like to improve this year in their personal or professional lives. Maybe their answers will inspire others.

“A new year seems to be a marker in time when we like to make a change. I prefer the mindset that we should be always open to a better self, no matter what time of year. I personally am working on balance in my life this year. As a wife and mom of two, my eldest is a high school senior who will be embarking college this fall. She also happens to be my business partner! As many can relate, it’s about making choices — what I’m spending my time on, being good with what I say ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to and how I spend my time and energy. Being as present as I can be while juggling work, enjoying family and loving myself are key to this sweet spot in happiness and savoring these moments in my life. And that means balance.”

— Irene Gianos, founder of The OP Life living on purpose lifestyle website and co-CEO of Honestly Margo bath and beauty brand

“2018 was a very busy year. I neglected my personal wellness. For 2019, I’m going to refocus on personal wellness while continuing my personal and professional growth.”

— Sharon Tabb, national makeup artist who has worked with celebrities and on films

“My words for 2019 are intention and growth. Setting my intentions and seeing them manifested. 2018 was a pretty reactionary year for me, personally and professionally. I went through the motions and maintained, but my heart wasn’t there. My heart was broken after the loss of my daughter, then my father. I am so thankful for all the help, love and support. Couldn’t have made it without it. But this new year is about intention. Rebuilding my happy place and seeing it grow. I am working on me and the shop to make 2019 the best year yet.”
