Family Travel: Why Families Are Swapping Resorts For Vacation Rentals

Family travel is in the midst of a massive change, especially when you look at the way families travel and where they choose to stay. For many, many years, if you wanted to go away with your family, you’d book a typical vacation resort. You’d have a hotel room or two and spend the week in an all-inclusive resort surrounded by other families.

It was the way everyone did it, but not anymore. A trend is emerging that sees more and more families ditch the old resorts in favor of vacation rentals – but why? What’s so special about a rental property that makes families book them out, despite resorts being so convenient?

Way More Space & Better Value For Money

It might not seem like it at first, but it’s often way cheaper to book a rental property for a family than it is to stay in a resort. You can even get a luxury holiday rental for less than resorts charge – and it’s because of the extra space you get. You’re renting out an entire home instead of paying to stay in a couple of rooms.

With resorts, a family of five might not fit in one room, so you have to double the costs by booking two. Rentals provide way better value for money, especially when you’ve got a big family.

So Much More Flexibility

All-inclusive resorts are cool, but you’re always running on their schedule. What if you and your family wanted to go elsewhere for the day and enjoy some sightseeing or family activities? You get back a bit later than usual, and you’ve missed dinner. Or, possibly even worse, you arrive at the end of dinner when all the good food is gone.

Vacation rentals give you the flexibility to come and go as you please. Families love this – even if it means they have to prepare meals themselves – because it doesn’t feel like you’re planning a holiday around someone else’s schedule. Oh, and there’s more flexibility regarding who can travel with you as well. Some rentals let you bring pets, so you don’t have to leave your furry friend at home.

A Lot Quieter & More Peaceful

One of the major downsides to resorts is that they’re extremely loud, and you never get any peace and quiet. This is especially true when you head to a family-friendly resort; get ready for two weeks of other people’s kids screaming and crying the whole time.

Families want to go away and actually feel relaxed for once, so rentals sound more appealing than ever. You can sit back, relax in your own private pool, and enjoy quiet evenings as a family. It gives parents a chance to unwind while also ensuring the kids get enough sleep as they’re not kept awake by the noisy resort anymore.

When you look at the whole situation like this, it begs the question: are resorts on their last legs? While some families will still enjoy what a vacation resort has to offer, there’s no denying that vacation rentals are taking over, and for many good reasons.
