Sometimes you have to play the long game to generate sales. But what about those desperate situations when you need extra revenue right now? This calls for specialist marketing tactics that encourage customers to act more quickly and impulsively. You can’t rely on these tactics too much, but they can be effective for unexpectedly expensive months or off-season periods. Below are a few different examples of ways to immediately boost revenue.

Flash sales

Flash sales involve temporarily discounting multiple products in order to attract customers. Such sales typically last for no longer than 3 days as to create a sense of urgency. You can even make them last as little as an hour (known as ‘happy hours’) or add a countdown to your site. For flash sales to be effective, you can’t run them too often (otherwise customers will just wait for the next flash sale) and you need to make sure discounts are large enough to get people interested.

PPC advertising

Pay-per-click (PPC) ads are online adverts that you run for a select amount of time. How much you pay for each campaign depends on how many clicks your ads get. When using Google’s PPC platform, Google Ads, your adverts display at the top of the search rankings. PPC search engine ads can meanwhile be targeted at specific demographics and are often much more effective at getting clicks than organic content. The more heavily you invest in PPC, the more clicks you’ll get and the most leads you’ll hopefully generate too. Marketing agencies like Algebra can help you to fine-tune your PPC campaigns to get more sales.

Targeted promotional emails

You might also be able to generate immediate sales by sending out targeted emails to certain past customers. Start by targeting your most loyal customers with exclusive loyalty reward discounts. You may also be able to win back customers who haven’t purchased anything for a while with similar discounts. By sending out vouchers with an imminent expiry date, you can get these targeted customers to purchase from you immediately.

Upselling campaigns

When you do get a sale, consider upselling extras to maximize revenue from that customer. It’s important to not be too aggressive here as this could aggravate customers and make them not want to come back – the best upsell strategies involve carefully selected related products or extras, like asking a diner if they want to add any sides with their dish or sending an email to a hotel guest with a booking to ask if they want to upgrade to a suite (perhaps for a small discount?).

Special events

Events can take time to prepare and are not always a reliable way to bring in immediate sales because of this. However, there may be instances where you can quickly throw together an event and then heavily market it in order to generate some extra sales. This could include putting on a trivia night on a weekday at a bar to attract more customers or offering some free tastings at your restaurant to spur on bookings.
