Pump It Up Magazine Interview

Pump It Up Magazine: Your artistry spans from music and comedy to international cuisine. How do you balance all these creative passions — and what ties them all together for you?
Jacqine: I started creating music at age 9, cooking at 15, and writing comedy at around 19. Each of these art forms brings me joy and allows me to express my creativity. The emotion and organization in my work come together like sequences in a cadence. While they may seem different, there are strong similarities in the creative process that connect them all.

Pump It Up Magazine: You’ve performed in amazing places and reached fans in over 110 countries. What’s one moment that stands out to you?
Jacqine: One of my most memorable moments was hearing my song “Notify Me” on an English radio station with David Snashfold. I produced, arranged, and sang the track, and it was later syndicated by Doug Sinclair to 40 stations. That song, inspired by starting my own business after a corporate layoff, still resonates with people today — many have thanked me for it.

Pump It Up Magazine: Your interactive e-cookbook sounds like such a creative fusion of food, music, and storytelling. What inspired the idea?
Jacqine: It started with a movie trailer I produced that featured my music, food, and comedy. I’d already written my cookbook and published it as an e-book, but I wanted more than just recipes — I wanted it to be fun and engaging. My comedic stories, love of music, and passion for cooking came together to create a unique blend. I even include voiceovers, character voices, and songs in multiple languages to enhance the experience.

Pump It Up Magazine: You write and produce across so many genres — jazz, R&B, pop, and more. What’s your process when you start creating a new song?
Jacqine: My process varies. Sometimes I start with a bass line and build instrumentation around it; other times, I begin with lyrics and melody. I might also create piano parts or string arrangements first, then layer more than 25 instruments to form the final sound.

Pump It Up Magazine: We read that one of your early songs got licensed in 13 countries at a French film festival — amazing! How did that opportunity come about?
Jacqine: At the time, I was signed to a label. I presented them with a song I had written and recorded with keyboards, melody, and vocals. After some additional production and writing, it was licensed in 13 countries through the festival. Even today, I’ve come across remixes of that song online.

Pump It Up Magazine: You’ve mentored other artists and worked with film/TV composers. What advice would you give someone trying to break into music or find their voice?
Jacqine: First, love the song you’re creating — it should excite you from the very first listen. Create a buzz around your music so people notice. Opportunities will follow if your work is exceptional. Also, treat music like a business. Be reliable, and collaborate with those who are professional and responsive. And consider pairing your music with merchandise — like I did by combining it with my e-book — to expand your reach.

Pump It Up Magazine: You sing in multiple languages and have traveled extensively. How have those experiences shaped your music and your recipes?
Jacqine: Traveling has been an incredible learning experience. I’ve taken cooking classes in Sicily and Tuscany, explored countless restaurants, and visited spice stores around the world. My ability to taste and identify subtle differences in dishes has helped me create unique recipes. These experiences also inspire the international flavors and cultural influences in my music.

Pump It Up Magazine: What’s next for you? Any new projects, albums, or adventures you’re excited about?
Jacqine: This September, I’ll be featured in an online food magazine with 15 million viewers. I may also be scoring a film later this year, and there are more exciting projects in the works that I’ll be announcing soon.
