“Set Myself Free” has become the “Official Anthem of 2018” because of its message of empowerment, explained Feritta in her recent interview with us. “This song is all about looking within, trusting yourself and not letting anything hold you back.” She wrote the song during a difficult time in her life and it helped to re-energize her focus and get rid of the negativity.
The contemporary pop/funk song is a collaboration between her and Italy’s Got Talent 3rd-place contestant, Stef Tahlia. The two met on an online music/actor forum while both were looking for collaboration on new projects. The song was produced by Tahlia and recorded separately on opposite sides of the world with Feritta in Australia and Tahlia in London.
The energetic track opens up with a brief guitar intro and then dives right into a toe-tapping heavy bass line. The upbeat and funky melody gets you into the groove right out the gate. Feritta’s strong voice glides effortlessly up to really beautiful heights delivering the emotional punch of the lyrics. Tahlia showcases his guitar skills that are reminiscent of Prince, and together with Feritta’s gentle, smooth flowing vocals makes this a fabulous dance track.
The chorus is where the song’s powerful message becomes an anthem. Consequently, the inspirational lyrics convey that you can set yourself free to accomplish anything you want by pushing aside anyone and anything negative that is trying to hold you back.
There’s an interlude where you’ll hear Feritta’s soaring high notes meshing with Tahlia’s amazing guitar work. The end result is an exhilarating mix of the two. Feritta punctuates that feeling as she belts out an exuberant, drawn-out “yeah!” at its conclusion.
